Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have created the title sequence for the BBC’s UK Olympic coverage. The animation featrues Monkey, Pigsy and Sandy in Hewlett’s superb style. They head off on a “Journey to the East”, based on the classical Chinese novel, “Journey to the West”. You can watch it here. There opera ‘Monkey: Journey To The West’ opens in London tonight at the Royal Opera House. We’ll be there tomorrow, so we’ll let you know how it goes. Maybe it’ll come to the new Oslo Opera House one day?

Indeed they do. Cake summer 08 is in store featuring five new designs. With names like New York Sex Team and Lazy Girl you can pretty much work out the theme. Lots of bold graphics and some fresh colourways. Check it here

In an earlier blog, (the one below this!) we said that Grace Jones’ ‘Corporate Cannibal’ was one of the best videos we’d seen in a long time, but we’ve just seen this… Radioheads amazing new video for ‘House of Cards’. Using no cameras or lights. “Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.” Watch in amazement. So that’s two new videos we like. Both similar in their simple, bold style, and proves the old adage, Less Is More. Thanks to Hypebeast for the info.

We recently took on a new brand for HL. In recent years Nike has really pushed its self to the forefront in terms of product development and design. All achieved with a very innovative and boundary pushing approach. This coupled with the world wide recognition and exposure that many underground artists have achieved through the many collaboration projects they have commissioned makes it very welcome here at HL.In store we have the Bermuda and Elite Vintage shoes. Part of Nike’s vintage range which reproduces classic sneakers from days gone by. Brand new shoes but featuring 1970s grade nylon, strange swooshes, aged laces and distressed suede. We also have a couple of colour ways of the Air Structure Triax 91 which was first released in 1990. The Triax was an innovative shoe which utilised ‘Footbridge Technology’ which helped correct bad running techniques. The retro versions are brought up to date with some fresh colour ways and rain camo. We also have some of the Super Blazer Hi Premium’s which have some slight improvements from the previous model and have to be one of the lightest shoes around. The Air Max Light is a particular favourite of mine. We have a real slick model finished in Grey, Black, Purple and Silver. Alongside the sneakers we have two colour ways of the Storm Windrunner and the Todd James collaboration piece.
